In 1998, after finding inspiration from a dream, American accessory designer, Mary Norton, designed her first handbag. To her surprise, demand for the whimsical yet sophisticated handbags came swiftly, and within months the new found designer, wife and mother built a company dubbed 'Moo Roo' (her daughters' nicknames).
Over the next eight years, Moo Roo grew into an international brand with an A-list celebrity following. Praise and recognition for Mary Norton's unique style followed.
In 2004, Fashion Group International, Inc. and The Accessories Council named Mary Norton a rising star. And, in 2005, Inc. Magazine named Moo Roo among the fastest growing urban businesses in the United States.
In September 2006 majority stake in Moo Roo was acquired by a luxury investment fund and relaunched under the name of Mary Norton, Inc. Production for the Mary Norton handbag and the first-ever shoe collections moved to Italy, and two U.S. boutiques opened under the new brand name (a flagship store on King Street in Charleston, South Carolina and Melrose Place in Los Angeles, California).
In 2007, Mary was honored with the prestigious Footwear News Launch of the Year Award for a ground-breaking year of growth and stellar design.
Mary has made a name for herself as "the red carpet accessory expert, having designed for some of the world's most recognizable celebrities, such as Charlize Theron, Halle Berry, Uma Thurman, Catherine Zeta-Jones, Queen Latifah, Halle Berry, Cameron Diaz and Jennifer Lopez. Her inspired handcrafted handbags and shoes were carried by the world's finest retailers and featured on the pages of the most important fashion and lifestyle magazines.
Sadly, in the summer of 2009, Mary Norton Inc.'s doors were closed do to harsh economic circumstances. But for Mary, who is no stranger to trials and tribulations, this was just a temporary setback.
2010 brings a new decade and a new chapter for Mary Norton. Applying the unique mix of entrepreneurial, marketing and design knowledge that Mary has acquired over the last twelve years, Mary is now consulting and collaborating with various brands in many different capacities.
